Acura has been quite a popular name in the automobile industry. The very first reason is that the Japanese automakers are celebrating their 25th anniversary in the US this year. Secondly, we were quite curios how extreme they are going to get with their design this year.
Honestly, the 2009 Acura TL was quite a disappointment in terms of design. That extremely edgy beak like the grille was completely off the hook. When Acura announced their 2012 Acura TL, the anniversary car to be exact, we were quite confident that they will get rid of that beak, but they didn’t. Surprisingly, it does look good this time.
This time Acura has trimmed down their grille to a much more reasonable level. Nothing much has really changed about the design except that it is softened down to a level where it actually looks quite pleasant. Major changes are the new front and rear styling, deeper darker headlamps and different tail lights. For some reason, the car looks uniquely sexy, sporty and decent at the same time. Impressive enough!
According to what we have so far, the 2012 Acura TL will come standard with new 17 inch wheels with an option of upgrading to 19 inch.
Inside the 2012 Acura TL is a refined interior with some amazing features including the 60GB infotainment plus navigation system. The four door luxury sedan will also include the blind spot detection system, ventilated front seats and 19 inch wheels as upgrade options. The interior is black for the most part along with a hint of chrome that has become standard for luxury cars these days.
Some do say that the interior doesn’t look that much of an anniversary car, but with our hands on experience we found the Acura TL 2012 to be extremely comfortable and luxurious. What we didn’t expect was the substantially reduced wind and road noise. So, it means they did put in quite an effort this time.
Under the hood, the Acura TL 2012 will feature a refined 3.5 V6 engine with a 280 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm. The transmission is leveled up from five-speed automatic to a six-speed automatic. Also, in the news are the stories about the six-speed manual transmission that will be offered in the All-wheel drive Acura TL.
With their new and improved gear ratio, makers of Acura are quite hopeful that it will help improving the mileage of their luxury sedan. Conclusively, we can really expect a lot from this refined Anniversary Acura TL. By the looks of it, we can easily say that the 2012 Acura TL is going to give a tough competition to the likes of Lexus Es and Audi A4.
